VISIONWORKS, INC. IS A 501(C)(3) NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHED BY CAMP DISCOVERY VOLUNTEERS.

Camp discovery was formerly sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS), but in 2013 the ACS announced that it was no longer sponsoring pediatric oncology camps nationwide. As a result of this decision, the ACS graciously offered VisionWorks the opportunity to place camp under our umbrella and we enthusiastically accepted.

Camp Discovery is rich in history.

The first Camp Discovery was held in the summer of 1984 at YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow in Hunt, Texas and had approximately 50 campers. We eventually grew in number of campers to our current capacity of 150, and are now being hosted by the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas.

Camp Discovery has always been run primarily by volunteers and will remain so for years to come. We currently have a volunteer return rate of 94%, with 74% of those volunteers being cancer survivors themselves. Approximately 50% of our current volunteers are former Camp Discovery campers.

Camp Discovery has always been funded by the generous contributions from the community, including foundations, corporations, and individuals. As a result, there is no cost to the family for the opportunity to participate in the forever experience called Camp Discovery.
